Microsoft LifeCam VX-7000
Pros: Arresting design, easy setup, can be mounted on a variety of surfaces
Cons: 2Mp video lags badly, certain features only work with Windows Live Messenger
Verdict: The Lifecam VX-7000 offers a reasonable performance in most areas, but $150 is a pretty big ask for a webcam; particularly when some of its premium features don't work properly. Only consider buying if you're a Windows Live fan.

Microsoft LifeCam VX-7000
Review summary: The Microsoft LifeCam VX-7000 may be the company's high-end webcam, but it offers only midrange performance and features.
Pros: Compact design. Plays nicely with Windows Live Messenger. Noise-canceling microphone. Bundled software simplifies basic functions like video recording and blogging
Cons: Boring looks. Limited range of movement. Slow, inaccurate white balance. Lame batch of special effects. Mediocre image quality
Verdict: Microsoft's high-end webcam delivers midrange performance and features. Most users will be happier with competing models from Creative and Logitech.
