      Pros: Highly portable. Small footprint, about the size of a 12-inch ruler. Can be mounted on a wall. Powered through the USB connection.

      Cons: Software focuses on photos, but the hardware works better with paper documents. Photo quality is only fair, and photos tend to pivot as they feed.

      Verdict: The Plustek OpticSlim M12 scanner is light enough, at 0.7 pounds, to take with you if you need portability, and it occupies just 10.8 by 1.9 inches on your desk. Unfortunately, the software concentrates on photos, while the hardware seems better ...
