      Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 3550n

      By Paul Jasper

Pros: Colour printer, good monochrome print quality

      Cons: Too big, high price

      HP Color LaserJet 3550n

      By Paul Jasper

Review summary: Printer uses an add-on network interface and relies on its host PC to render pages, but you don't get a price break.

      By M. David Stone

Review summary: Type: 1-pass color, Technology: Laser, Rated Speed (Color): 16 ppm, Rated Speed (Mono): 16 ppm

Pros: Output quality ranges from the high end of good to excellent. Standard 350-page capacity with 850-page maximum. Easy network installation.

Cons: The 16-page-per-minute engine rating is slow for the price, and so is the measured performance. Network connection uses an external print server.

Verdict: The HP Color LaserJet 3550n is a reasonably capable color laser for those who value output quality more than speed. Both the 16-page-per-minute engine rating and the actual performance are slow for the price. But quality across the board is better ...
