      Sony Vaio P

      By Jan Birkeland

Review summary: The Vaio P caused quite a stir when we got a sample early into PCW towers. The tiny netbook (Sony prefers to call it a "Pocket Style PC") measures only 245 x 120 x 19.8mm, creating an unusual but attractive-looking oblong shape. Weighing in at only ...

Verdict: The display has the unusual resolution of 1,600 x 768, which is surprisingly comfortable to both work and play on. The P is equipped for high-definition video playback (It will play AVCHD files direct from a camcorder) and watching high definition ...

      Sony Vaio P: First Impressions

      By Ben

Review summary: Yes, I'm typing this post on a Sony Vaio P. I'm currently at the wonderful Webstock conference in no-so-sunny Wellington*, and Sony kindly lent me the teeny PC to test during the trip.

      Sony Vaio P

      By Dan Ackerman

Review summary: Elegant, thin design Large keyboard Multiple networking and connectivity options High-resolution screen Less expensive than Sony's UMPC experiments Tags: Battery, Mouse Button, Sony VAIO P

Pros: Elegant, thin design Large keyboard Multiple networking and connectivity options High-resolution screen Less expensive than Sony's UMPC experiments

Cons: Stuck with Windows Vista (for now) Trackpoint navigation isn't ideal

Verdict: Sony's upscale Atom-powered VAIO P has the components of a cheaper machine, but the design of a more expensive one. The end result will be a useful travel PC for some and a conversation piece for others.

      Vaio P

      By Darren Gladstone

Review summary: Don't you dare call the VAIO P a netbook! Why otherwise would Sony smart at the idea of me using the "N" word even though the P has a netbook's 1.33-GHz Z520 Intel Atom processor (at the low end of the second-gen CPU list)? First off, the price: It ...

Pros: Sleek, pocket-sized design Good touchpoint control

Cons: Screen and keyboard are a hair too tiny Pricey considering the parts

Verdict: Inside Windows, you can always just boot up VAIO Media Plus. It operates with the same cross-media interface, though it's just a hair more sluggish than the version with the light Linux shell. The Smart-Wi networking software quickly gets you onto Wi ...

      Sony VAIO P

Review summary: There's no denying the sex appeal of this not-quite-a-netbook model, but the price is a little too steep for what Sony's VAIO P offers.

Pros: Sleek, pocket-sized design ; Good touchpoint control

Cons: Screen and keyboard are a hair too tiny ; Pricey considering the parts

Verdict: Inside Windows, you can always just boot up VAIO Media Plus. It operates with the same cross-media interface, though it's just a hair more sluggish than the version with the light Linux shell. The Smart-Wi networking software quickly gets you onto Wi ...
