Main information
If apple made a netbooks it would be this desirable
- Pros: Build quality, battery life, larger screen size, full size keys
- Cons: none
i feel compelled to recommend it to the whole world.
The build quality is very high, there is no flex or give in any of the components, the keyboard is of the highest quality, the screen is spot on. This is an object which is a pleasure to hold and use.
The track pad is small but perfectly functional (turn on the "roller ball" style movement to allow you to flick the cursor around the screen, covering large area's in one move).
Performance: i continue to be very impressed. I'm using this for MS Office, Internet Explorer, music, and online video (BBC iPlayer). The NC10 is not going to replace your main "number crunching" home PC, indeed i have a second machine i use for video editing and graphic design, but you'll probably have a second PC due to the NC10's lack of CD-ROM. The NC10's got a good strong CPU and 1 GB of RAM, so it does very well in most situations, its definatly much much more powerful than just an internet browser.
The lack of CD-ROM is the only inconvenient part of this machine. BUT, this is netbook territory, so that is part of the design spec. I found it no problem at all to copy the software i wanted to install on to a USB memory stick and install via the USB (treat the USB as a CD-ROM and install directly from the memory stick).
The battery life is spectacular, it's unusual for anything "high technology" to have a battery life of 8+ hours, but the NC10 does, it just keeps on going, it makes it a very practical thing to take "on the road" with you because you dont need to take the power supply for normal day to day use... great if you're one of the "cafe culture" types who wants to be creative on the go.
All in all, i cant find anything wrong with this machine, it looks very cool, it's built to last, and for normal applications it's very quick.
