Panasonic Toughbook CF-52: Panasonic laptop is as tough as its name
By Elias Plastiras
Review summary: TAKING almost anything that you can throw at it, the Panasonic Toughbook can withstand a fair amount of punsishment.
Pros: Resistant to accidental spills and can survive infrequent drops and bumps, PC Card and ExpressCard/54 slots, long battery life
Cons: DVD burner vibrated noticeably, handle makes the notebook bulky
Verdict: For demanding users who tend to miss their mouth while they sip, or for anyone who is always using their notebook on the road, the semi-rugged Toughbook CF-52 is a worthy proposition. But it won't withstand everything you throw at it.

Verdict: The main difference is a lack of bulk and, while the ports have rubber stoppers to protect from dust and water, this isn't a sealed unit. You'll find exposed elements, such as the optical drive and SD card reader lacking protection

Panasonic Toughbook CF-52
By Sandra Vogel
Review summary: The Panasonic Toughbook CF-52 is a semi-ruggedised desktop replacement for use in the field. Its keyboard is splash resistant and it has a solid outer shell with a built-in carrying handle. Plus, the laptop should survive a 76cm drop, if you happen to ...
Pros: Very solid outer casing ; spill-resistant keyboard and touch pad ; wide-aspect-ratio 15.4-inch screen
Cons: Large and heavy ; some ports are unprotected ; disappointing battery life
Verdict: The Toughbook CF-52 is a solidly built 'semi-ruggedised' laptop with a hardened outer casing, shock-mounted hard disk and covered ports. However, this heavy system isn't the most portable and its battery life falls a long way short of Panasonic's claims
