      Lenovo ThinkPad R50e 1842 (Pentium M 725 1.6 GHz, 256 MB RAM, 40 GB HDD)

      Pros: Very long battery life ; sturdy ; fast ; moderately priced ; many configuration options

      Cons: One-year standard warranty ; screen could be crisper

      Verdict: Good performance, along with great design and battery life, make the ThinkPad R40 a trusted friend for the traveler and the desk jockey.
