Ok, it's been out a while now, and the marketing guys at Nintendo got their advertising strategy right for this one. Instead of following the route of Sony's Playstation 3 and Microsoft's X-Box 360, Nintendo went for an all out fun for the family route. And the only company that opted for a totally wireless control system.
When I first unpacked the kit, I checked it all out first, and I was a bit dissappointed with the quality of the plastics used for the main console. The cover for the Gamecube joypads literally came away in my hand when I opened it. The rest of the console's casing's quality can be felt when first picked up. For something that cost nearly 200 UKP, it could have been better.
The start up menu is very user friendly, using pictograms and well labelled icons on the OSD. Game play using both your hands took only a few mins to get the hang of, then it was all easy sailing with the games.
The games boffins that are creating games for Nintendo's Wii have got the job cut out for them though. Will they run out of ideas for new games for the Wii? You can only go so far with first/second person shooter/slash games. If they start turning out regular handheld controller type games, then it'll end up being a wireless controlled games console like the PS3 and X-Box.
