      Review summary: If your business needs a basic clerical PC, the HP Compaq dx2200 Business Desktop PC is it. It's (barely) Vista-compatible, and has the upgrade space to take you to the places you need to go for the next few years.

      Pros: Nice price. Quiet operation. Configurable with FreeDOS. Vista-capable.

      Cons: Without upgrades, compatible only with Vista Basic (or business without the graphics). Pentium 4 is hyper-threaded, not dual-core.

      Review summary: As its name implies, the HP dx2200 Business Desktop targets workplace users. This compact system's low price of $738 (as of November 6, 2006) makes it a good match for small and home offices on a budget.

      Pros: Inexpensive price

      Cons: LCD screen can't be adjusted ; No FireWire or surround-sound support

      Verdict: This simple, well-priced system skips the fancy features but delivers a good overall package for business users who need a cheap system for basic computing tasks. It's about a hundred bucks cheaper than similar systems we looked at
