      Asus Eee Box

      By Florent Alzieu

Review summary: Alongside its EeePC range, Asus also has a range of mini PCs based largely on the same components as its incredibly popular netbooks

Pros: - Quiet, - DVI out, - 4 USB ports, - Optic audio out

Cons: - No keyboad, mouse or screen, - Not powerful enough for HD Video

Verdict: At the end of the day, the EeeBox is nothing more than an EeePC 1000H in a different case with the battery, keyboard and case replaced by a few extra connectivity options. Put that way, it's only really easy to justify if the price discrepancy between ...

      Big on small computers

Review summary: Asus has repacked its portable and affordable mini notebook, the Eee PC, into the compact Eee Box.

Pros: Small size ; low power consumption ; quiet ; great as a multimedia playback machine

      Cons: Cannot handle 1080p videos

Verdict: As it is, it's a competent multimedia playback machine and since it runs Windows XP, it's a full PC and is thus a lot more useful than most of those multimedia playback boxes like the Apple TV and can be used as an extremely low-power torrent machine.

      Asus Eee Box

      By Rich Brown

Review summary: Small design may have some aesthetic appeal Integrated Draft-N Wi-Fi Pre-Windows ExpressGate OS lets you browse and do other basics seconds after turning on the power Tags: small form factor, Power Brick, Video

Pros: Small design may have some aesthetic appeal Integrated Draft-N Wi-Fi Pre-Windows ExpressGate OS lets you browse and do other basics seconds after turning on the power

Cons: Terrible performance and features compared with standard budget desktops A cheap notebook will offer similar capability, space savings and portability

Verdict: Despite a few useful features, the ASUS Eee Box is a novelty at best. It can't come close to the performance and robustness of even the most basic standard budget PC, while a low-end notebook can do everything it can do and more. The appeal of the Eee ...

      Asus Eee Box

Review summary: Asus' ultra-mini PC, the Eee Box, has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 80GB hard drive, support for 802.11n Wi-Fi standard and a five-card reader (SD, SDHC, MS, MS Pro, MMC). Best thing is it measures just 216x178x25mm and weighs only 1kg.

Pros: First things first, this costs just £200! That's a bargain in anyone's book, especially as it runs pretty fast for such a basic machine. That's largely down to a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor. Rounding up the rest of the spec, you get 1GB of memory, an ...

Cons: So why the low price? Well, there's no mouse, keyboard or monitor for a start. The lack of optical drive could also prove a problem for some people. Graphics too, aren't much cop, mainly because there's no dedicated GPU inside. And as for looks... ...

Verdict: Not quite as ground-breaking as Asus's Eee PC notebook, but the B202 is more than capable of performing basic PC tasks, and all for a double ton. Nice.

      Eee Box 202

      By Dave Stephenson

Review summary: Lacks in power, but terrific hardware design makes this an intriguing take on the Eee brand.

Verdict: It's surprisingly well-featured, too. A chief complaint of other small PCs such as the Mac mini was that it was next to impossible to add peripherals: install a mouse and keyboard and you'd already run out of USB ports. The Eee Box has two USB ports ...
