Hercules XPS 2.0 60
By Tim Gideon
Review summary: The biggest complaints about sub-$100 computer speakers are that they distort too much and lack decent bass response. So it's a pleasant discovery that the Hercules' XPS 2.0 60 ($99.99 list) speakers suffer only from high-volume distortion, and thus ...
Pros: Balanced, crisp output. Articulate bass response. Sleek design. Affordable. Adjustable treble and bass
Cons: No remote control. Distorts at high volumes
Verdict: The XPS 2.0 60 sounds better than you'd expect from a $100 speaker system, but it has distortion issues at high volumesand there's no remote control.

Hercules XPS 2.1 50
By Tim Gideon
Review summary: Guillemot's Hercules brand is no stranger to budget 2.1 speaker sets. The Hercules XPS 2.1 50 sells for $69.99 (list), a price that is rare for decent-sounding stereo speakers of any kind and almost unheard of for sets that come with a subwoofer. ...
Pros: Very affordable. Attractive design. Decent audio quality at moderate volume levels
Cons: Subwoofer not very powerful ; distorts. Right-hand speaker is hardwired to sub. No remote
Verdict: The XPS 2.1 50 is certainly affordable for a system with a subwoofer, but Hercules has made better-sounding speakers—for exactly the same price.

By Tim Gideon
Award: Editor's Choice!
Award: Editor's Choice!
Review summary: I didn't know the price of the Hercules XPS 2.1 Lounge speakers when I hooked them up to my test computer in the labs. They delivered pleasant, resonant bass, and clear high-end performance, typical of, say, a $120 2.1-channel set. I was greatly ...
Pros: Very affordable. Clear high-frequency performance. Strong low end from subwoofer.
Cons: Wavy speaker design isn't for everyone. Unsightly wired controller.
Verdict: They may not look like a million bucks, but the Hercules XPS 2.1 Lounge speakers certainly sound as if they cost more than $60.
