      Review: NEC MultiSync 3090WQXi LCD

      By James Galbraith

Review summary: NEC's MultiSync 3090WQXi is a 30-inch wide-screen LCD monitor aimed at professionals whose work requires color accuracy.

Pros: Large screen ; adjustable stand ; looks good at wide viewing angles

      Cons: Expensive

Verdict: The display connects to your Mac using one of the two DVI inputs. It requires a dual-link DVI-equipped Mac, such as a Mac Pro or MacBook Pro. Some Power Mac G5s and late-model PowerBooks also support dual-link, but check your system's specifications ...

      NEC LCD3090WQXi review

      By Neil Bennett,

      Review summary: NEC's LCD3090WQXi is a high-end 30in monitor that's a grade above the likes of Apple's 30in Cinema HD Display and Dell's UltraSharp 3008WFP.

Verdict: The LCD3090WQXi is an excellent display with only one major flaw - its price. While the Auto Luminance system is unique for a 30in display, this alone isn't worth the £300 extra the LCD3090WQXi costs over Eizo's FlexScan SX3031W.

Review summary: NEC storms into the 30in monitor market with a screen that puts the competition in the shade.

Verdict: The NEC MultiSync is far and away the best 30in monitor I've ever had on my desk. The image quality is first rate, with supremely wide viewing angles that show what an S-IPS panel is capable of (take note Dell). The design is excellent, with extensive ...

      NEC MultiSync LCD3090WQXi

Review summary: You'll need a meaty Mac to drive this display at its full, native resolution

Pros: Superb quality ; Very wide colour gamut ; Adjustable ; Easy-to-use onscreen display

Cons: Slightly uneven backlighting in our unit ; Bulkier than we expect from LCD

Verdict: Although the specs are similar, the quality of the MultiSync LCD3090WQXi is significantly higher than Apple's own 30-inch Cinema Display, and while the £600 difference in price is not insubstantial, it's worth paying
